Minister of Foreign Affairs Israel Katz has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prepare for the implementation of a national emergency plan to repatriate Israelis stranded abroad. According to the plan, Israeli diplomatic missions around the world will map concentrations of Israelis wishing to return home. The MFA Situation Room will monitor the situation around the clock and will establish a center to monitor requests of Israelis stranded abroad.
In accordance with demand, the MFA will arrange commercial flights from designated destinations to Israel. The MFA will approach Israeli airlines El Al, Arkia and Israir, and call upon them to participate in the operation and to send planes to the designated destinations.
FM Katz added that it is his intention to coordinate the plan with senior government officials in the countries of origin in order to obtain the special authorization required to operate the flights, similar to the coordination with the Peruvian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
FM Katz: “The closures taking place around the world at a growing pace and the number of Israelis abroad have created a national emergency, which requires the implementation of a national emergency plan. The principle of mutual responsibility will continue to lead us until all Israelis return home. I call on all Israelis abroad to return home as soon as possible. There are still commercial flights available from most countries, and it is possible to return.”
