President Reuven Rivlin sent a letter of condolence this morning, (Wednesday, 26 February 2020), to President Abel Fattah el-Sisi on the death of former President of Egypt Hosni Mubarak.
The letter reads:
“On behalf of the State of Israel and personally, I would like to extend my deepest condolences on the passing of President Hosni Mubarak to you, to Madame Suzanne Mubarak and their sons, and to the people of Egypt. President Mubarak was a true son of Egypt and a devoted servant to its people. His lifetime of service contributed greatly to the development of Egypt and to the stability of the region.
He was one of the brave leaders, Israeli and Egyptian, who forged a new relationship of peace between us. In doing so, they created the possibility of further reconciliation across the region and the benefits it could bring to us all. I hope and pray that we will be able to fulfil their legacy soon.
We still remember him coming to Israel to pay his respects at the funeral of Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin, who he referred to as ‘my friend’. Mr. President, we are neighbors and allies, facing common threats and sharing common hopes. I believe that by working together we can benefit our peoples and our region.
رحمهُ الله واسكنهُ فسيح جنّاته.
انّا للّه وانّا اليه راجعون
May his soul rest in peace and his legacy be a better future for us all.”
