PM Netanyahu meets with top Chinese corporate leaders

The Prime Minister expressed Israel's willingness to continue opening to the Chinese market and to increase bilateral trade. He presented the attractiveness of investing in Israel as well as its unique human capital.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met with the heads of China's largest corporations, each of which has a turnover of tens of billions of dollars. Among those present were the chairpersons of Wanda, Alibaba, Wahaha, Lenovo and Baidu.

The Prime Minister expressed Israel's willingness to continue opening to the Chinese market and to increase bilateral trade. He presented the attractiveness of investing in Israel as well as its unique human capital.

Accompanying Prime Minister Netanyahu are Economy Minister Eli Cohen, Environmental Protection Minister Zeev Elkin and Health Minister Yaakov Litzman. The Prime Minister called on them to cooperate with Israeli companies in Israel, in China and in other countries around the world.

Afterwards, Prime Minister Netanyahu attended a business / economic forum with over 600 Israeli and Chinese businesspeople. He called on the Chinese businesspeople to adopt Israeli technology in order to continue to raise the standard of living in China.

The Israeli delegation to the forum – organized under the aegis of the Export Institute – is composed of dozens of businesspeople from a variety of industries and companies (including IDE, Bank Leumi, Bank Hapoalim, Tnuva, NaanDanJain and others) that either operate in China or are interested in penetrating the Chinese market. Delegation members are due to meet with hundreds of Chinese businesspeople.

The forum was organized by Economy and Industry Ministry commercial attaches at Israel's missions in China

"I just met with 11 heads of the largest corporations in China. A major portion of them are investing in Israel and a major portion of them will invest in Israel. This means jobs, the development of businesses and a link to the major Chinese markets. This is good for the citizens of Israel and for the Israeli economy. I told them that in today's world there are several concentrations of technology, not many, the US, Israel, and Israel is open for business with China," said Prime Minister Netanyahu

PM Netanyahu’s remarks at a meeting of Israeli and Chinese businesspeople:

Following is an excerpt from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's remarks today (Monday, 20 March 2017) to a meeting of Israeli and Chinese businesspeople:

"This is a stark change from the first visit I had in China over 20 years ago, when I came during my first visit as prime minister. The streets were lined with bicycles, a lot of bicycles, few cars, some new buildings, but mostly old buildings. And I have to say less smog. And you see the force, the great, enormous swirl of Chinese progress and Chinese ascendency, with all its challenges and all its problems, assume its place on the world stage in a very exciting development in human affairs and something that all nations – all nations – seek to take part of, to be partners with China, to be of assistance to China and thereby also assist themselves.

In this period, in these decades, Israel too has not stood still. Israel has moved and become one of the foremost centers of global innovation, a technological global power. It is true that we also amended our economy. We changed it. We changed it into a much freer economy, a more liberal economy more aligned with free trade principles, free market principles. And the combination of the innate technology that we had and the market economy that we built created a very powerful explosion of startup companies in various fields, drawing on military capabilities, especially in the field of IT, but rapidly expanding into other areas. As a result, and for other reasons that I won’t enumerate here, Israel has become a hub of innovation. Not just a hub of innovation; perhaps the other hub of innovation – of cross-fertilized innovation. That’s one of the advantages of being small. People meet up and talk to each other. If you’re a chemist, that you’ve just finished some work in the intelligence service and you meet a pilot who just was discharged from the Israeli Air Force, and he has an idea of how to use the helmet for surgery and you have the chemical that could be used in that same surgery, you actually join forces for something revolutionary in surgery. This is actually happening.

And so it goes and it goes and it goes all the time. In that small country of Israel, you get gigantic leaps forward in innovation, with a structure of venture capital to finance it. So people leave their military service and they very naturally move into areas of entrepreneurship in hi-tech. We have of course the phenomena that produces what I called mushrooms after the rain. So we have a lot of mushrooms because of this climate. It’s very conducive to getting mushrooms – startup companies that begin to grow and they’re picked. They’re picked by American companies. They’re picked by Chinese companies or by German companies. They produce the basic technology and they’re transferring it to someone else. That’s fine. But it’s not as fine as something else.

So here’s something else that happened last week. I’ve been waiting for this a very long, long time, and it’s important for us and it’s important for China: Last week, Intel, a very large international company, bought a company, an automotive company in Israel – autonomous automotive technology, the wave of the future. It bought it in Jerusalem for 15 billion dollars. That’s a hefty sum. But the interesting thing about this purchase is that they didn’t just buy it and say, 'Okay, some of you will move to Palo Alto.' They said, 'None of you will move to Palo Alto. In fact, we have some 30 other such businesses around the world for automotive technology, and we are subordinating everything to you, Mobileye. You run it for us.' So Israel is now, at once, in one fell swoop, become the center of an enormous global industry – automotive technology, autonomous vehicles. It’s a huge industry.

Similar things are happening elsewhere. We have, for example – same thing exactly – developing with cyber security. We have a big investment in cyber security in the military. I have encouraged very much the development of a cyber-security private business, and in 2016 in Israel, we received 20% of the global private investment in cyber security. That’s 200 times our relative weight in the world population. There are 500 startups in cyber security in Israel. There are 500 startups in automotive technology in Israel.

Now there’s a third area that’s developing and it’s called digital health. Because we have data, computerized data for just about every person in Israel, we can merge that data and have preventative medicine. We can also do this with fewer doctors, because it can be done by telemedicine, and we can also have targeted, personal medicine because the data is so much better. This will elongate life and reduce diseases. These are huge industries and I’ll be remiss because I’m telling you, there will be many more.

And one thing I’ve learned, at least from my background, is I don’t know. I don’t know where the next great breakouts of genius will come, but it is clear – it is clear for Israel, it is clear for China, it’s clear for everyone in the world. What is happening now is that every single field of human endeavor is becoming technologized. The distinction between hi-tech and low-tech is no longer valid. Everything is becoming hi-tech. Agriculture: hi-tech. Water: hi-tech. Air purification: hi-tech. IT: of course hi-tech. Medicine: hi-tech. Transport: hi-tech. And so on and so on and so on. And the future now belongs to those countries who can innovate, who can upgrade their products and services for the betterment of their citizens with these new technologies.

So here’s the particular marriage that I see between Israel and China. I think that there is an extraordinary capacity for China to assume its rightful place, as it’s doing, on the world stage. It depends on the consistent ability to elevate living standards with additional added value that can be supplied only by technology, because at a certain point, once you give roads, railroads, intersections, buildings – once you… Given the basic infrastructure of initial and secondary development – airports, sewage lines, water – once you’ve done that, the way to go up and up and up is to constantly improve your products and services and utilities with technology.

We are your perfect junior partner for that effort. And we think there are only two such concentrations of technology in the world for the moment, and we are one of them. We are eager to work with you. We’re going to sign with the government in the coming days a series of agreements on how we can pursue this cooperation, how we can help China in its plans and how China of course can enable us to participate in its great projects. But I believe this is a marriage made in heaven."

PM Netanyahu meets with Russian President Putin

The threat of radical Shi'ite Islam threatens Israel no less than it does the region and the peace of the world, and I know that we are partners in the desire to prevent any kind of victory by radical Islam of any sort.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the following remarks at the start of his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin:

"Mr. President I am very pleased to see you again.

Our frequent visits reflect genuine friendship and a tightening of relations in economics, technology, tourism and culture, as well as the living bridge of the one million Russian speakers living in Israel. One of them is translating for us now. But in this context, I would like to point out that in recent months we concluded the agreement on pensions between us. I would like to thank you for your personal involvement.

One of the things that we are fighting together is radical Islamic terrorism. Of course, in the past year there was significant progress in the fight against the radical Sunni Islamic terrorism led by Daesh and Al Qaida; Russia has made a very important contribution. Naturally, we do not want this terrorism to be replaced by the radical Shi'ite Islamic terrorism led by Iran.

I thank you for your Purim greetings. 2,500 years ago in ancient Persia there was an attempt to destroy the Jewish People that did not succeed and we mark this on the holiday of Purim. Today there is an attempt by Persia's heir, Iran, to destroy the state of the Jews. They say this as clearly as possible and inscribe it on their ballistic missiles.

Of course, I would like to say as clearly as possible: Israel is a state today. We have an army and we are capable of defending ourselves. But the threat of radical Shi'ite Islam threatens us no less than it does the region and the peace of the world, and I know that we are partners in the desire to prevent any kind of victory by radical Islam of any sort.

I thank you for the welcome."

PM Netanyahu's remarks at the White House

Let us seize this moment together; let us bolster security; let us seek new avenues of peace; and let us bring the remarkable alliance between Israel and the United States to even greater heights.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, in Washington DC, at the White House, made the following remarks at the start of his joint press conference with US President Donald Trump:
"President Trump, thank you for the truly warm hospitality you and Melania have shown me, my wife Sara, our entire delegation. I deeply value your friendship to me, to the State of Israel. It was so clearly evident in the words you just spoke. Israel has no better ally than the United States, and I want to assure you, the United States has no better ally than Israel.
Our alliance has been remarkably strong, but under your leadership, I'm confident it will get even stronger. I look forward to working with you to dramatically upgrade our alliance in every field, in security, in technology, in cyber and trade and so many others. And I certainly welcome your forthright call to ensure that Israel is treated fairly in international forums and that the slander and boycotts of Israel are resisted mightily by the power and moral position of the United States of America.
As you have said, our alliance is based on a deep bond of common values and common interest. And increasingly, those values and interests are under attack by one malevolent force: Radical Islamic terror.
Mr. President, you've shown great clarity and courage in confronting this challenge head-on. You call for confronting Iran's terrorist regime, preventing Iran from realizing this terrible deal into a nuclear arsenal, and you have said that the United States is committed to preventing Iran from getting nuclear weapons. You call for the defeat of ISIS.
Under your leadership, I believe we can reverse the rising tide of radical Islam. And in this great task, as in so many others, Israel stands with you and I stand with you.
Mr. President, in rolling back militant Islam, we can seize an historic opportunity, because for the first time in my lifetime and for the first time in the life of my country, Arab countries in the region do not see Israel as an enemy, but increasingly – as an ally.
I believe that under your leadership, this change in our region creates an unprecedented opportunity to strengthen security and advance peace. Let us seize this moment together; let us bolster security; let us seek new avenues of peace; and let us bring the remarkable alliance between Israel and the United States to even greater heights.
Thank you, thank you, Mr. President."

PM Netanyahu meets with British PM May

I’d like to talk to you on how we can ensure that Iran's aggression does not go unanswered. I assure you that we share with you the desire for peace; this is our dream from day one. We will never give up on our quest for peace with all of our neighbors.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, today (Monday, 6 February 2017), at 10 Downing Street in London, met with British Prime Minister Theresa May and made the following remarks:

"Thank you Prime Minister. Thank you for your warm welcome. I would say that it reflects the strength of the partnership between Israel and Britain. I know that all the people of Israel share with me the congratulations we offer to Queen Elizabeth today, 65th anniversary of accession to the throne. What you say is very true, there's a very strong bond between us.

Behind my desk in the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem I have two photos, only two photos: One is of Theodor Herzl, the founder of our national movement and our modern Moses and the other is of Winston Churchill. And these two leaders personify our commitment to the values of freedom and our common civilization. These values create for us great opportunities. Our cooperation in trade and in technology, I think makes our people more prosperous. Our cooperation in security, including cyber security, makes our people safer and I hope to have the opportunity to discuss how we can strengthen that cooperation to make our people still safer and still more prosperous.

Equally we face challenges, very clear, from militant Islam and especially from Iran. Iran seeks to annihilate Israel. It says so openly. It seeks to conquer the Middle East. It threatens Europe; it threatens the West; it threatens the world. And it offers provocation after provocation. That's why I welcome President Trump's insistence on new sanctions against Iran. I think other nations should follow soon, certainly responsible nations.

And I’d like to talk to you on how we can ensure that Iran's aggression does not go unanswered. Equally, I want to assure you that we share with you the desire for peace and this is our dream from day one. And we will never give up on our quest for peace with all of our neighbors. I think there are challenges there but there are some new and interesting opportunities because of these regional and global changes. And I'd like to discuss that with you.

I, again, thank you for you warm welcome and I thank you for your commitment to the powerful friendship between Britain and Israel."

PM Netanyahu visits the scene of Jerusalem terrorist attack

This attack is part of the same pattern inspired by Islamic State, by ISIS. This is part of the same ongoing battle against this global scourge of the new terrorism. We can only fight it together, but we have to fight it, and we will.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman visited the site of the terrorist attack in the Jerusalem neighborhood of Armon Hanatziv and were briefed by Jerusalem District Police Commander Yoram Halevy.

Prime Minister Netanyahu:

"We in Jerusalem have just experience an unprovoked terrorist attack, a murderous attack that claimed the lives of four young Israelis and wounded others. This is part of the same pattern inspired by Islamic State, by ISIS, that we saw first in France, then in Germany and now in Jerusalem. This is part of the same ongoing battle against this global scourge of the new terrorism. We can only fight it together, but we have to fight it, and we will."

PM Netanyahu meets with Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev

I view our relations with Kazakhstan as being part of the great change that the world is waiting for; not the forces of intolerance, the forces of tyranny, the forces of terror but the forces of progress and of amicability and of friendship.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was welcomed at the Presidential palace in Astana by an honor guard and the national anthems of both countries. This is the first visit to Kazakhstan by an Israeli Prime Minister. Prime Minister Netanyahu held a private meeting with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev, followed by an expanded meeting.

The two countries signed agreements on research and development, aviation, civil service commissions and agricultural cooperation, as well as a declaration on establishing an agricultural consortium. It was also agreed that teams would be established to study high-tech and security development.

Prime Minister Netanyahu made the following remarks at the joint statements with Kazakh President Nazarbayev:

"Mr. President, thank you very much for these warm words. I'm privileged to have the opportunity to be the first Israeli Prime Minister to visit Kazakhstan. It coincides with your 25 years of independence. We congratulate you on your stunning achievements. Look around and you see a new nation rising from the soil and I appreciate and applaud your view into the future.

You say, correctly, that the important thing is to take a raw material economy and to move it up. And we believe that this is a task in which we could join hands and do many things together. We did not have, until recently actually, the blessings of raw material. We just found gas in the sea. I have a problem, Mr. President, of thinking about Israel as an energy exporting country, but it's a fact. But until then, before then we had to export other things and so we are now in the happy position of having both natural resources and man-made resources which I think allows for a perfect marriage between what you're trying to do here and what we've been doing there.

This is expressed first in our commitment to EXPO. We came here, it was an easy decision. We want to be here, we want to be partners with you in all the things that you said, specifically three areas: one, agriculture; second, science and technology; third, security and anti-terror. We formed working groups and we are going to have a follow-up meeting in Israel. This will be the President's, I think, fourth visit to Israel so I still have to come back here but we would like to have there these groups meet in Israel with concrete programs so that we can move forward on this very ambitious plan. One of the things that we need to do, and you mentioned it just now, is to have direct flights because the people have to interact, have to be able to fly easily, comfortably between our two countries and the more they do it – the more the economy will grow and the more people will want to do it and vice versa. So this is one of the practical things that I think we should work on as soon as possible because it will enhance all the others.

I want to commend you for your attitude of tolerance towards Jews. This is something that the Jews who are here feel and Jews who came from Kazakhstan to Israel value deeply. You're right, they're a human bridge, but they're also your best ambassadors. They speak very warmly of Kazakhstan and of the attitude towards all religions here.

This is something that I thing is important today for the world. What you see today are the leaders of a Muslim state and the leader of a Jewish state shaking hands, working to cooperate to create a better future for the citizens of our countries. But I think that this example of Muslim-Jewish cooperation is something that reverberates throughout the world. I said to you as we were walking in here that our relations with our Muslim Arab neighbors are changing dramatically. Not all of is public, some of it is, but it's changing dramatically. And I view the relations with Kazakhstan as being part of this great change that the world is waiting for. They want to see not the forces of intolerance, the forces of tyranny, the forces of terror. They want to see the forces of progress and of amicability and of friendship and this is what this meeting represents. So I'm very grateful to have this opportunity. I must tell you that I said that my hope is, and I say this to all our friends, that the great partnership that we are building here will also be reflected in international forums like the UN. That's beginning to happen. This ship doesn't move over night, we understand that. It's a big ship but it's going to change. It's changing already.

And in this context, I asked President Nazarbayev to support the Israeli bid for the Security Council seat. You know that we supported Kazakhstan's successful bid to be in the Security Council. Now if you want a real change in the world, imagine the State of Israel on the Security Council of the United Nations – that's a change. And it's supposed to be in 2019, and I think it's possible. And with your help, it will be realized.

So I thank you for your friendship and I look forward and I'm very excited to our cooperation. And I thank you for your warm hospitality here."

Minister Zeev Elkin told a meeting of the mixed economic commission: "This is the historic first visit by an Israeli Prime Minister to Kazakhstan. Today we signed important cooperation agreements in the areas of agriculture, in novation and aviation and we decided to start negotiations on a visa waiver. There is great potential for economic cooperation between Israel and Kazakhstan and we decided on a tangible action plan to put it into effect."

PM Netanyahu discusses UNESCO Temple Mount decision

This absurdity in the theater of the absurd continues, even if with reduced force. But it must be understood that in the end this absurdity that hurts not only historical truth and present truth, but also the UN itself.

Following is an excerpt from Prime Minister Netanyahu's remarks at the dedication of the Adelson School of Entrepreneurship at IDC Herzliya:

"Today, the UNESCO Heritage Committee passed a decision which caused disappointment among the Palestinians and several Arab countries. It was supposed to be passed unanimously, by consensus, because the UNESCO Secretary General said that if it was not passed unanimously, then the decision would not be implemented. I would like to thank the leaders of Tanzania and Croatia for demanding a vote. I spoke with them and I very much appreciate their willingness to take a stand there. Because it reached a vote, it will not be implemented, because it was not unanimous.

Eleven out of the 21 countries that are members of the Heritage Committee, as they call it, did not support the vote. For Israel, this is a significant result because one year ago, with a membership that was much more comfortable for us, we received a result that was not as good. Countries such as Germany, Japan, India and Colombia left, and all kinds of other countries, which are familiar to you, entered: Lebanon, more Arab countries, Angola, Zimbabwe, etc., etc., and with a membership that was not as good we came out with a better result. This advances what I have been telling you, and what I told the UN, is happening: that Israel's bilateral relations will also – in the end – be reflected in international forums, even though this will take time. It takes time and a little help from above. I said that it would take ten years, in my mind less than ten years, to break the automatic majority in UN institutions, especially of the bloc of African countries, 54 countries. The decisive majority will go from opposing Israel to supporting Israel. This process is happening and it is also expressed in today's vote. The change that is taking place is finding expression here. I would like to thank the personnel at the Foreign Ministry, the National Security Council and our UNESCO embassy, who assisted me in my talks with the various leaders.

Of course, we are trying to change the reality, but the fact that, even if this decision will not be implemented, it was raised at UNESCO, is absurd; that we – pay attention, Israel in the Middle East – that it is we who are violating the rights of the various religions, that it is we who are not safeguarding the holy places. Is it possible to conceive of anything more absurd? We are not safeguarding? We are the only ones who are scrupulously, carefully and zealously safeguarding. Who would do so if not us? We all know what is happening here in the Middle East as radical Islam blows up mosques, blows up churches, blows up historic sites, slaughters Yazidis, slaughters Muslims who do not agree with them, slaughters Christians, slaughters whoever it can. Who is deserving of condemnation? Certainly not Israel. Israel deserves all possible praise on this issue, as a beacon of light and progress, tolerance and rights.

It is UNESCO that deserves condemnation, not only for its present blindness, but for its past blindness as well. That scandalous decision, the scandal that they decided upon two weeks ago, to the effect that the Jewish people have no connection to the Temple Mount, or to Jerusalem at all, is contradicted by the Bible and the entire historical record. Did you know that Titus was a Zionist propagandist? On Titus’ Arch, they are carrying, 2,000 years ago, after they destroyed the Temple – it was not a mosque, Islam had not yet been founded; that would take another few hundred years – they are carrying the seven-branched menorah. You know that. And the member states of UNESCO also know it.

But this distortion, that plasters over the whole notion of historical truth, of history in general, this distortion was covered over by another historical find that was made public today by the Israel Antiquities Authority. This was a document, a shipping invoice, that was sent over 2,700 years ago from Na'arat [see Joshua 16:7], near Jerusalem, and it says in ancient Hebrew, and this is the critical word, but you can see it in Hebrew, '[me-a]mat. ha-melekh. me-Na'aratah. nevelim. yi’in. Yerushalima'. 'From the king’s maidservant, from Na'arat, jars of wine, to Jerusalem'. Here is a letter from the past to UNESCO. It is written Yerushalima. It explains, in Hebrew, our connection to Jerusalem and the centrality of Jerusalem. A servant of the king, certainly a king of Judah. It is from over 2,700 years ago – Jerusalem. Not in Arabic, not in Aramaic, not in Greek or Latin – in Hebrew.

And, indeed, this absurdity in the theater of the absurd continues, even if with reduced force. Therefore, I have decided to summon home for consultations our ambassador to UNESCO, and we will decide what to do, what our future steps will be vis-à-vis this organization. But it must be understood that, in the end, and it will take time, this absurdity that hurts not only historical truth and present truth, but also – in my view – hurts the UN itself, this absurdity will end as Israel's strength grows and expands."
